Racing has always been a testing ground for KTM bikes’ production and technology approval. Soon after renaming the company, KTM won the first title during the 1954 Austrian 125 national championship. At the start, KTM just had 20 employees where they would build 3 motorcycles per day. ![]() ![]() KTM began serial production of R100 in the year 1954. ![]() Ernst Kronreif in the year 1953 became a sizeable shareholder of Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen which was then renamed to Kronreif and Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, and that is how KTM came into existence.
